Where/what has been important to you in your mental health journey? Why?

The seaside, especially during the golden hour, has been both a tranquil witness and a trustworthy companion for my mental health journey. The soothing sounds of waves splashing onto the shore creates a mindful atmosphere to work through my, at times, confusing thoughts and overwhelming feelings; whilst the soft undulation of the waves remind me that the difficulties and hardships we might be facing are temporary and transient. The serene reflections of sunset colours on the waters reminds me that the little things in life are just as precious, and the importance of living in the present moment. Short walks by the seaside never fail to relieve my stress and refresh my mind, and have been crucial for taking care of my well-being.

Why do you think mental health is important?

I believe that mental health is important, as we cannot function well, build meaningful relationships, or work productively without good mental health. This is especially important for people living in Hong Kong, as we are one of the most overworked cities in the world and have some of the highest costs of living and housing prices, which could bring a lot of stress and anxiety. At the same time, Hong Kong has a low ratio of mental health professionals to population for a developed region, which means that those in need of help may be left struggling on their own. It is therefore essential to take care of our well-being, and prevent mental health difficulties from developing into more serious and long-term conditions.
